Northern Ireland is a post conflict area, marked by its divided and highly conservative society. Paul Bloomer was raised by parents that came from opposite sides of the divide. They instilled in him a deep respect for diversity and raised him to appreciate both sides of the conflict, this gave Paul a strong desire for public service and social justice. Constable Bloomer has served in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) since 2010, performing several different roles in that time, ranging from Emergency Response officer to his current role as a Court Liaison officer. Paul was the first PSNI officer to march in Uniform in Manchester Pride in 2015, this was a transformative moment for Paul who felt empowered and enriched by the positive experience. He returned to his home force with a powerful desire for change. He was part of a team that successfully lobbied for and carried out the first participation of Northern Ireland Police Officers in Uniform in Belfast Pride. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the PSNI LGBT+ Network.
